The Interactive Itinerary (As seen in TourGuide Magazine)

In cooperation with Access Pass & Design, one of the premier "Backstage Pass" and printing companies that service the entertainment industry, former tour manager and sound engineer Kit Benge has developed the Interactive ItineraryTM. The reason why printed itinerary books have been called "the book of lies" for years is that updated information and contacts usually come in the form of a hand written napkin that hangs from a rubber band in the production office.

Because it can be "virtual" (on a CD that everyone gets at the beginning of the tour and is password protected on the web) you can never loose it, keeping your sensitive information secure. Updated information is processed via the web with password protection on the server side as well. Seth Sheck from Access says that the product is just another example of how technology is changing the industry.

The Interactive ItineraryTM is a password protected, off-line itinerary that can allow you with one click to e-mail everyone on the tour, home, or in the office with last minute changes or other information,

"In the last few years we have added several products for the touring band that takes advantage of the latest in print technology and now we feel is a good time to introduce a product for the touring professional that takes advantage of the web. It might be a little ahead of it's time in the sense that a lot of tour managers are just now getting into how much effort something like this can save them, but technologies like this will be the way that business gets done from hear on out if you want to compete".

It's kind of like having a web developer design a solution specifically for your needs. If all you need is basic information, then Interactive Itinerary TM still shines over the printed book just in its e-mail features alone. But because each Interactive ItineraryTM is hand built, it really shines when used with a large project or tour that necessitate disseminating information to many offices and people as quickly as possible. The CD requires nothing but a web browser and nothing is downloaded to your machine to use Interactive ItineraryTM. The product comes with an easy to use interface that has links to everything from venue specifications and maps, to local information. It could be used by a club band or regional tour, but is designed for large touring acts that have to get information to dozens of people in a day from the road. For record company staff who have had to take on the responsibility of advancing and sometimes booking tours for their roster, Interactive Itinerary TM includes links and tools to book travel, make filling out carnet forms a snap for international tours, and develop a press database within your Interactive Itinerary . It really does make communicating much easier for the band on the run.
